Sherborne’s swifts return!

The town has regained its summer sound

The ‘early arrival’ swifts are already toying with the rooftops, sweeping over them at high speeds with what looks like unlimited joy.

It is such a relief when they return, as they always seem to hail the bridge of Spring to Summer.

A recent count over the abbey was around 17 individuals. They tend to arrive in ones and twos through the days from late April to mid-May.

Meanwhile.. Tim Phillips has been busy over the winter months, designing and completing two further tranches of 10 nest boxes, bringing the current total to 30. These latter additions have improvements of camera position – now placed overhead to help give a clearer view and prevent the cover screen from gettng covered in, urm.. stuff!

We await more swift arrivals..

Regards,
Steve Day
