How it happened
Two swifts in Box 8 at midday, 18th June..
One swift in each of Box 4 and 5 at 2pm today too.
Friday 19th: the pair in Box 8 spent last night together in the box and a single swift was seen in mid afternoon.
A single swift was also spotted in Box 4 and Box 5.
Saturday 20th: two in Box 8 and one in Box 7 at 10pm.
Sunday 21st: last night’s birds in 7 and 8 spent the night in their boxes. Evidence of nest building in Box 8. Bird (2?) in Box 4 at 08:35.
For most of the day, there has been a pair in Box 8 and a single bird in Box 4, as well as sightings in Boxes 5 and 7. At 8.30 pm, two in Box 8 and one in Box 4. And at 9:30, two in Box 8 and one in Box 7.
Monday 22nd: 7am – two in Box 8 and one in Box 4. 9am – one in each of 5, 7 and 8. 12:40pm – a pair in Box 7. 5pm – two in Box 7, one in Box 8 and one in Box 1!! 22:45 – two birds in Box 7 and two in Box 8. 23:00 – two in 7, two in 8 and one in Box 1.
Tuesday 23rd: 7am – two in both Boxes 7 and 8. 12:40 – one in Box 1, two in each of Boxes 4 and 8. 13:10 – one in each of Boxes 1 and 7, two in each of Boxes 4 and 8.10pm. One bird in Box 1, two each in Boxes 4 and 8. 22:50 – one in Box 1, two in Box 4 and two in Box 8.
Wednesday 24th: 6am – two birds in Box 8. 6.30am – one in each of Boxes 1 and 4 as well as the pair in Box 8. 13:15pm – one in each of 1 and 4, two in Box 8. Another seen in Box 7 during the morning. 22:30 – one bird in 7 and the pair in 8. Very hot today in England.
Thursday 25th: overnight, one bird in Box 4 and the pair in Box 8. Very hot overnight. 13:15 – two birds in Box 8. Apart from the single bird brooding Box 2, no others seen. 33° in Sherborne.
Saturday 27th: overnight, a bird in Box 4, the pair in Box 8 and another in Box 22. 13:00 – first hatchling seen in Box 2.
Both hatchlings in Box 10 ringed at 4pm today, weighing 37.5 and 34.2 grams respectively.
21:15 – bird in Box 24. 21:45 – a bird in Box 4, the pair in Box 8 as well as a bird in Box 22.
Sunday 28th: overnight, the birds in Box 4 (10), Box 8 (2) and Box 22 (1) were still there at 06:45.
